Kaylin is 13. Bright. Thoughtful. More aware of her body than most kids ever have to be.
Since second grade, she has lived with Crohn’s disease. Stomach pain. Fatigue. Doctor visits. Infusions. An invisible burden that can shape a childhood, even when no one else can see the fire burning inside.
“I had no clue what it was,” she says, remembering the day she first learned the name for what was happening in her body.
Inflammation Is a Fire
Inflammation is supposed to protect us. A cut turns red. The immune system rushes in, does its job, and leaves. Chronic inflammation is different. It does not roar. It smolders.
Dr. Pablo describes it like a campfire that never gets put out. Warmth becomes damage. Protection becomes wear.
“The more you control the inflammation,” he tells Kaylin, “the healthier you’ll be.”
The Hidden Cost of a Body at War
From the outside, Kaylin’s life looks ordinary. School. Volleyball. Family. Her scooter. Her journal.
But underneath, her body is constantly managing an internal alarm that never fully shuts off. Chronic inflammation asks the system to keep fighting long after the emergency has passed. That cost accumulates.
For Kaylin, the goal is not to erase Crohn’s disease. It is to calm the system around it.
Food Can Feed the Fire or Calm It
Dr. Pablo visits Kaylin at home and brings the science into real life. Some foods support her. Others quietly add fuel. And with Crohn’s disease, the line between healthy and harmful is not always where it appears.
Rather than just taking things away, Dr. Pablo helps build something better. Better choices do not have to feel like punishment. They can become tools.
Stress Is Part of the Fire Too
School. Medical appointments. Change. Any of it can tip the system. She has already built things around herself that help. But Dr. Pablo also gives her something she can use when none of that is available.
What he teaches her in that moment, and how quickly she feels the difference, is worth seeing for yourself.
What the Wheel of Age Reveals
Kaylin is 13. Her result lands close. But not exactly where she started.
Kaylin takes it in with a maturity that surprises the room.
“There’s no getting rid of it,” she says.
But there is learning. There are choices. There is a future where all of it compounds in her favor.
What This Episode Leaves You With
Inflammation is not always loud. Sometimes it looks like exhaustion. A child who seems fine from the outside but carrying more than anyone can see.
A hidden fire can do real damage. But once you know where it is, you can begin to stop feeding it.
